Partners from Mobilité Montréal have announced the main roadwork projects that will cause traffic disruptions this fall. Here’s what to expect.
Several major projects are under way or will be rolled out across the road network in the coming months. These projects are essential to maintain, repair and modernize transportation infrastructure.
Coordinated work to reduce disruption
Not all projects will be in progress at the same time, thanks to close coordination among Mobilité Montréal partners. By carefully staggering closures, they avoid overloading any one area and keep disruptions for road users to a minimum.
To further ease the impact, much of the work will be scheduled at night and on weekends, when traffic is lighter. This approach is designed to keep things running as smooth as possible during peak hours.
Areas to watch
Southwest part of the island
Through the end of September, work is planned on the Victoria Bridge as well as on rue Bridge near the bridge approaches. Partial closures remain in effect on A-10 (Bonaventure), while occasional overnight closures are planned on R-136 (Ville-Marie and Viger tunnels). In addition, a complete closure of the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge northbound is scheduled for the weekend of August 28.
Downtown Montréal
A number of projects are continuing on Montréal’s municipal road network, including sewer rehabilitation work on rue Guy and infrastructure work in the area surrounding Berri-UQAM metro station.
Central and eastern Montréal
Work on A-25 and in the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel continues, with certain complete overnight and weekend closures planned.
The Blue Line extension project is also progressing along Jean-Talon East, resulting in the complete closure of the boulevard at five intersections.
Additional projects are under way on the municipal road network with partial closures, including on avenues Papineau and De Lorimier, as well as on rue Hochelaga.
Major international event
In addition to roadwork, the fall season will also be marked by the UCI ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. In September, this major international event will require significant closures on both municipal roads and highways, including:
- A complete closure of A-10 (Bonaventure), toward downtown Montréal, on September 19, 20, 21 and 22, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- A complete closure of the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge toward Montréal, on the mornings of September 26 and 27.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their trips in advance and make use of public transit and active transportation options whenever possible. A special unlimited All Modes ABC Road World Championships pass, will be available during the event.
To facilitate travel during the competition days on September 21 and 22, a free park-and-ride service will be available at the Chevrier parking lot in Brossard. Complimentary shuttle buses will connect the lot to the Du Quartier REM station between 6:00 and 10:00 a.m., as well as between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. This initiative is intended to encourage the use of public transit and reduce the impact of road closures on travel.
